The Landowner Queen

 by Carmen Schwartz

Among the kings, like Ted Turner and others, stands Anne Marion. This is a woman who not only has intelligence and a true love of the land, but also has the class and sass that the world needs in order to thrive.

Owning 345,000 acres, Anne Marion is famous for owning the vast 6666 Ranch near Guthrie, Texas; as well as the Dixon Creek Ranch 6666 ranch 2located near Panhandle.

It’s no surprise that Anne Marion knows her business, seeing as that she is the fourth generation heir to Samuel Burnett – a man known by one and all in the Lone Star State for purchasing more than a third of a million acres by the early 1900s.

The 6666 Ranch is not only a successful operation, it is also one of the most interesting facets of Texas history. Samuel Burnett was a Captain with the nickname of “Burk.” But it was in 1868, after purchasing 100 head of cattle that wore the “6666” brand, that his true career began.

Anyone in the industry will give a shout-out to the 6666 brand as being the one given to only A+ bred cattle; not to mention the other golden nuggets that come with the ranch, such as championship horses and oil that never seems to stop flowing.

6666 ranchAlthough the Queen of the 6666 Ranch was once referred to as “Little Anne,” her full name is Anne Burnett Windfohr Marion. This is a lady who owns the same high-quality degree of determination, creativity, and true passion for the life that comes from working the land – that “Burk” enjoyed.

“The Four Sixes,” can claim a truly amazing historic line which is only one of the reasons why it is among the most respected in the country. Quarter Horse stallions, elite broodmares – these animals produce some of the greatest race, ranch and sale horses in the nation – and they are all a part of what 6666 has to offer.

The 6666 Ranch is the headquarters for Anne, but the Dixon Creek Ranch is never overlooked. Dixon Creek has its own focus that spotlights the areas of water and range management. Environmentalism and conservation is key at Dixon Creek, where they work to restore native grasses and improve natural resources. When you’re speaking about the need for renewable or alternative energy sources (windmills, pipeline tubs, dirt tanks, etc.), Anne Marion makes sure that her ranches are constantly working to reduce the carbon footprint and show others what taking these extra steps can do in creating a success.

And the benefits to the public and the land do not stop there. Anne Marion’s ranches also provide a full range of equine veterinary services, and are the ones to go to when looking for information on both stallion breeding and mare management.

Just to add in a little extra fun — The 6666 ranch has the 6666 Supply House. Again, this is a building with an immense amount of 6666ranch.comhistory behind it. “Burk” built The Supply House in 1900, as a place where his employees and others from the surrounding ranches could come and purchase everything they needed. This is the original General Store, if you will, that made sure everything from fresh fruit to special luxuries were on hand for the family.

And family is exactly what the 6666 employees were and still remain. “Burk” not only offered goods, but he also operated The Supply Store as a bank for his employees. The Captain kept his office within the House and spent a lot of time sleeping in the back room so he could always stay on top of things.

The general public in the 21st Century loves the 6666 souvenirs that the Supply House has to offer. And some items from the ‘old’ days, like tobacco, leather and tack, and jeans can still be found within its walls.

When it comes down to it: The 6666 Ranch, The Supply House, Dixon Creek, the incredible history, and the still premium, superior work they do in the industry, makes this a treasure that “Burk” and “Little Anne” can certainly be proud of!
