Looking Ahead to the Gluten-Free Worry-Free Holidays

by Carmen Schwartz

It’s only the end of October. The trickers-and-treaters haven’t even rung the doorbell yet, and already the stores are filled with Thanksgiving and Christmas displays that are making people smile.

That’s what the holidays should be for – smiling. No matter what the religion or family tradition, the holidays are a time when the world just seems to feel better. Even though the problems are still bouncing around in your head each and every day, holiday smiles bring relief.

gluten-free-thanksgivingBut…with the holidays comes stress. Especially when you are trying to meet the needs of everyone as you run around preparing for holiday decorations, gift-giving, and the preparation of the most amazing meals possible. This time of year not only comes with the visuals of the decorations and the happy St. Nick, they also come with the scents of freshly baked apple pies and warm homemade cookies exiting the oven. And you want everyone to be able to enjoy those treats.

In households that have to be more careful of food preparation, the holidays can sometimes be even more stressful. But during this time of celebration, there is always a way to make sure that gluten-free delicacies of the season can still be offered up at the table. There are succulent, amazing baked goods and a variety of main courses for the celiac sufferer, so they can enjoy gluten-free holiday flavors with no worry. Cookbooks galore are out there to bring everything from plum pudding to gingerbread into the house, absolutely gluten-free.

Your favorite turkey gravy can be made with gluten-free flour. Sweet potatoes can be part of your Thanksgiving tradition, as well as warm rolls and even a cheesecake that you will dream about long after the Santa décor has gone away. That’s the amazing thing about the world’s innovative ideas and new technologies in every industry – including gluten-free foods. More and more recipes are being created that taste amazing and make a Thanksgiving dinner even more fantastic.

Storehouse Foods is a company that brings their own amazing meals to the gluten-free world. ‘Pouch to Plate’ meals are for the on-the-go celiac sufferer who needs their gluten-free foods, but may not have the time or resources of a stove and refrigerator to make their meals during a busy workday or a vacation away. The reviews have been huge for Storehouse Foods, because of their inventiveness when it came to offering people what they need when they need it. And not only do the ‘Pouch to Plate’ meals only need boiling water to produce, they have also been created with love, which makes them amazingly delicious!

But Storehouse Foods is not only about their own uniqueness; they are a company that reaches out in all areas for the celiac sufferer and provides advice, news, and information. They understand the stress of the Thanksgiving table and the Christmas season, when it comes to wanting the meals that taste good, without having to worry about them being gluten-free.

Some very sound advice for the Thanksgiving or Christmas ‘chef’ is to make sure that as they use these gluten-free recipes, they always do a test tasting. Keep in mind that gluten-free ingredients are slightly different from the traditional ones, so taste testing every recipe to make sure that they’re delicious for your family or guest is a must.

Always double-check the ingredients, as well. Packaging is a bit confusing, so make sure beforehand that all ingredients are truly gluten-free.

And remember the old adage: “When in doubt, leave it out.” Never risk using an ingredient if you’re not sure about it. That way, all the turkey stuffing, cookies, etc., you make for that perfect holiday will be absolutely worry-free.

And never forget those fresh fruits and vegetables that are already worry-free. They make the best side dishes, appetizers and can be used to make some of the most delicious desserts a Thanksgiving table has ever seen.

This is holiday time. We are marching into the months that produce those vibrant, happy smiles. So make sure that you can enjoy each and every moment with your family and leave the stress far behind.
